Who we are

Harper Metrology provides assessor-informed accreditation frameworks, consulting, and training for laboratories that value precision, clarity, and technical rigor. Our work supports confident decision-making across accreditation readiness, assessment preparation, and ongoing compliance.

The practice combines hands-on metrology experience with direct involvement in laboratory assessment, ensuring that guidance is grounded in real-world requirements—not theory alone.

Our Team

Thomas Harper

Founder & Principal Consultant

Tom Harper's career in metrology began in 1999 at Hart Scientific in American Fork, Utah — first in the building, then in the lab. Over the following years he worked his way into calibration practice while completing a Chemical Engineering degree at the University of Utah, studying full time around a full working schedule.

When Fluke acquired Hart Scientific in 2001, Tom stayed. The years that followed deepened his technical grounding across precision measurement, calibration systems, and international standards — experience that eventually brought him to Europe, where he built a second career in laboratory assessment and accreditation.

He now works independently as a consultant and assessor, supporting laboratories across Europe through accreditation readiness, assessment preparation, and technically complex metrology challenges. His assessor work spans multiple European accreditation bodies, giving him direct insight into how assessors think, what they look for, and where laboratories most often fall short.

That combination — instrument manufacturer, working laboratory, and accreditation assessor — is unusual. Most consultants come from one side of the process. Tom has been on all three.

Director of Digital Strategy & Content

Amy Harper

Amy Harper built Harper Metrology's digital presence from the ground up — website, content, advertising, analytics, and brand architecture. Her background is in fine art photography and writing, which shapes how she approaches technical communication: with precision, clarity, and an eye for what actually lands with an audience.

She leads all content strategy, marketing, and digital operations at Harper Metrology, translating Tom's technical authority into frameworks that reach the right people and hold their attention when they get there.
